here again

Missing Minnie - even her business end - I check out the park alone. There is a girl in a pirate suit, a speech therapist having a day off from teaching little girls to say "cuh", a lone thrush among the pecking starlings. And William Westran, Oddfellow has had the grafitti cleaned off his marble.

What a lovely blog. I love the idea of focusing it on the life of a park. I arrived here via Google because I was looking for information on William Westran. I'm related to many Westrans of Sheffield. Is his marble the one featured in your photograph above? I'd love to know of any inscription or dates so I can fit him into my family.
Thanks!

Oh you have rumbled me. This is in Sheffield - Meersbrook Park actually. He is commemorated by a marble and stone former drinking fountain which reads: "This fountain was erected by the members of the British United Order of Oddfellows to perpetuate the memory of the late William Westrans one of its founders and corresponding secretary for twenty one years. He died while still in office April 22nd 1889 in his 66th year." Hope this helps. You can see a pic of the fountain in a later posting.
